about us
In summer, for those seeking a picturesque location where to find oneself in an environment to be at one with Nature, optionally Nude & Free to enjoy the full feeling of being away from daily routines and a place to escape the stressing stuffy feeling of city life, THE GRAND BARN is your destination. TGB is a private select club/resort of 250 acres of freedom. Located right by the Trans-Canada Hwy 417, between Ottawa and Montreal, and at an equal distance from Cornwall, its location can be easily found for those that want to experience the feeling of complete relaxation in a domain that has kept its very raw natural aspect and has maximized on the quality of its more tolerant laid-back visiting crowd.
We are at exit 17, on Barb Road, north side of the 417, and approximately 1 mile from the exit. No gravel roads for endless time. We're right there, easy to find. You can even see THE GRAND BARN from the 417, if you turn your head on the left/north side when approaching the exit 17, coming from Ottawa. That's how close we are from the 417. Once you see the civic address 3440 of TGB-Inn, keep on Barb Road to the main entrance of THE GRAND BARN and present yourselves at the front office..
You certainly can come unannounced, but we recommend that, as much as possible, you let us know, in advance, of your plans to come and visit so that we can better prepare for your enjoyable stay at TGB. With the abundance of visitors that come our way, your way to know of what we offer is that you pay your initial daily admission and take the time to explore as much of the 250 acres on your first visit.
It is most important to take note that we have always been, since our first day of operation, the very answer to the too many singles who may have felt left out, misjudged, or squarely denied access (or disdainfully refused based on their status) at many other locations. They have found the answer to their repeated frustrating rejections by coming at a place they can call Home.
Nudity is fully encouraged, not forced upon, as it pertains to the element of freedom we so strongly promote. It gives to the newcomers a better sense of adaptability and encouraging comfort so that they can pace themselves to the obvious freedom that prevails at TGB. You won't be categorized, either, upon being Nude and we will not simplistically present ourselves as a mere "Nudist/Naturist Club". Nude Recreation the uncomplicated way is one strong option we present with understanding the fact that those who shed their clothes off aren't playing silly stamping/ denunciating games but will rather be:
* A t "E A S E" with "N U D I T Y" *
What you should have expectations of finding?
- 1We have often been referred to, or chided for being a "Swingers club" let us take a moment to clarify: We embrace a philosophy of tolerance and open mindedness and mutual respect We do not attempt to hide, like other clubs do, behind silly subliminal labels and protocols that give preferential treatment to some, while scoffing and denunciating others for their activities. Further we do not embrace or condone the nanny-state mentality. When dealing with our patrons, we respect and expect that they acknowledge the universality of freedom we offer, and act accordingly. Freedom does not imply free-for-all. We have long been ostracized for our tolerant view on sexual expression and liberality. Normal and healthy expressions of our human nature should be nurtured and explored, not dictated by the state or sanctioned by a moral body. And like anything else in our culture it requires discipline, consideration, and at times constraint. This is where we expect our patrons to be aware that they share equally in the freedom that TGB offers, for not all of our other guests may share the same lifestyles or beliefs. This is why consideration has to be extended equally, and this is neither difficult or constraining, it just requires common sense and consideration. With 250 acres of freedom this is not a challenge at all to most.
- 2TGB has always focused on quality over quantity. Most people who become regular visitors here, do so because they like the freedom we offer. They are usually independent thinkers, who after having visited other venues and felt either objectified, marginalized, or squarely denied. They liked the simplicity of a place where very few rules exist. We have a very simplistic framework for social cohabitation. Think of it as the 3C policy, "Courtesy, Consideration and lastly Common-sense" If you follow these principles, you will fit in just fine.
TGB has a very rustic non-pretentious ambiance. Very subtle on the glitz, very bohemian in its utilization of existing infrastructure, maybe not that appealing in the eyes of some, but for those who want to reconnect with nature, and are appreciative of the regenerate efforts of the team at TGB, many find the setting very eclectic and refreshing. - 3Finally, TGB is not just a naturist venue. We are home to many unique and varied interests. Our eco-system sports an abundance of naturally wildcrafted healing herbs and wildflowers. We are an oasis for many a traveling artisan, inventor, poet and musician. Most of our guests have unique talents as do many of our regular members. We are equipped to provide bands and musicians an acoustically expansive real stage experience, and promotion if needed. And we are always open to proposals for hosting of events that would be in harmony with TGB's core beliefs and values.
We are grateful for the sensationalist media attention we periodically receive, but saddened that they only focus on one aspect of what TGB is all about, and even that is usually done in a judgmentally critical way. What Peter Riden envisioned, is now approaching 25 years of continued operation, it is the same today as it was in the beginning. Now the reigns are being passed to the next generation, but the core beliefs still stand. We are an environment that celebrates life in all its aspects and attributions. That life, and the individual expression of it through all the many friends that have passed through this portal of freedom, is what we are all about.
